Back in 1871, a town called “Brooklyn” was established and at the time it had a general store, school, church, lodge, saloon and blacksmith shop. Interestingly enough, the town name was not accepted by the U.S. postal service and was renamed “Forney” so that they could have their own post office. Now, Forney has a Historic Downtown District which is meant to embrace the future while preserving the past. Their downtown is thriving and there is even more excitement now that the Victorian Village has been announced and will provide office and retail space in the local victorian styles homes which is meant to tie into the historic theme of the downtown.
