The Colony, Texas

Naming this town “The Colony” is meant to pay tribute to Peters Colony Land Grant Company for their promotional effort and helping settlers move to Texas in the 1840s. Their land program was meant to grant about 640 acres of land to over 2,000 families. Eventually, the community built two general stores, a post office, a grain elevator, a church, a railroad shipping doc and office, a cotton gin, and a small school. The population had some setbacks due to world war two, but after the town’s official incorporation in 1977, it has grown immensely. Today The Colony is known as the city by the lake and is said to be one of the best-kept secrets of North Texas. Residents and visitors enjoy swimming, boating, hiking, cycling, camping, and much more on the towns 23 miles that extend along the eastern shoreline. Homeowners here have a significantly higher median list price per square foot than the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metro average and have been pleased to see the values of their homes rising since 2012. With market trends indicating a cool buyers market and 750 new home communities available, it seems like the perfect time to find a dream home in The Colony, Texas.
