In the mid-1800s an early pioneer was digging a well and discovered a rock wall, and suggested the name of the town be Rockwall after the unique geological formation. For business expansion, the town succeeded in the other parts of Kaufman county and became its own county called Rockwall. For decades Rockwall remained a small agricultural town until an aluminum plant opened and many people moved here for work. Then, in 1969 Lake Ray Hubbard was created and it brought a new focus of tourism and recreation to the community. Today, Rockwall is known to be one of the fastest-growing communities in the state, and housing tracts are being built all over the city out to its limits. It is now considered one of the most progressive cities in the Dallas Metroplex. Homeowners here have been pleased to see the value of their homes rise steadily since 2012. Real estate trends say it is a cool buyers market and with 363 new home communities to choose from, it is a great place to find a home.
