Live Oak, Texas

Live Oak is a city in Bexar CountyTexas, United States. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. Live Oak has no 19th Century history. It began life in 1960 when the town was developed and the first population figures come from the 1970 census when 2,779 residents were reported. In 1990 the city had 10,023 residents which declined to 9,156 for the year 2000 but rose to 13,131 in 2010. The population density was 1,956.7 people per square mile. There were 3,518 housing units at an average density of 751.8 per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 78.20% White, 8.44% African American, 0.78% Native American, 2.53% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 6.28% from other races, and 3.62% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 26.97%. Of the 3,429 households, 35.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.5% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.4% were non-families. 19.7% of households were one person and 4.3% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.06.
